My Gamehide Ultra-Light Vest was delivered today and I am very happy with its appearance and features. For a month I've been dieting and working out as a means of getting myself slimmer and in better condition for pheasant hunting, so the vest I ordered is a tiny bit snug now but it will fit me perfectly by the time pheasant season rolls around. Matter of fact, for warm weather dove hunting (when all I usually wear is a lightweight shirt) the Large size vest already fits me perfectly.
For pheasant hunting especially, this vest is going to be a joy to wear. It is virtually weightless, yet the fabric feels extremely durable and the stitching looks strong.
The design is open and uncluttered -- very important to me since I'm a minimalist. The shell loops are exactly where they need to be, under the pocket flaps. And there are only 10 elastic shell loops, five on each side, which is another feature I like a lot. Why? Because to help discipline my shot selection by firing only at close-range roosters, I like to carry no more than 12 shells afield on any individual pheasant drive -- 2 shells in my double gun, plus 10 extras.
This vest is going to take a lot of the sting out of those days when finding birds means walking from sunrise to sunset. I haven't even used it yet, but I can tell it's a nice piece of gear.
